“Thin Blue Line” Pen Blanks

(5 customer reviews)

The Thin Blue Lines and Thin Red Lines have a stripe running through the center of the  blank. They are in stock and redesigned! I’ve improved the process of making the blanks, and have switched to a round design. They’re not only higher quality, you can get your pens turned even faster without having to knock the corners off first.

Standard pen blank sizes are 3/4″ diameter by 5″ long, and prices are per blank.

“Thin Blue Line” blanks honor our brave and hard working law enforcement officials who serve and protect our country.

The Thin Blue Line is a symbol used by law enforcement, originating in the United Kingdom but now prevalent in the United States and Canada to commemorate fallen law enforcement officers and to symbolize the relationship of law enforcement in the community as the protectors of civilians from criminal elements. It is an analogy to the term Thin Red Line.

Each stripe on the emblem represents certain respective figures: the blue center line represents law enforcement, the top black stripe represents the public whilst the bottom represents the criminals. The idea behind the graphic is that law enforcement (the blue line) is what stands between the violence and victimization by criminals of the would-be victims of crime.[1]

Proponents of the symbol assert that the identifier is intended to show support for police.[1] In the wake of controversies over police shootings, the Thin Blue Line Flag has become popular among law enforcement personnel, their families and supporters.

The Alumilite Advantage!
Alumilite is by far the best resin I’ve found for casting pen blanks. It’s a joy to turn, yet it polishes up to a high gloss. Finishing these blanks doesn’t get any simpler! Just sand it up to a high grit or use micro mesh pads, then finish it off with some plastic polish or on a buffing wheel.

GOOD BYE CHIPOUT!! Alumilite blanks are not brittle like many of the mass produced or polyester resin blanks on the market. The blanks are cast under pressure to ensure there are no voids or trapped air bubbles in the blanks.

These blanks are created using a laminating method. With proper turning techniques, these blanks will turn fabulous. Improper turning or machining techniques can lead to lamination failure, however. Make sure you are turning at high speeds (over 3,000 rpms) and only use sharp tools when turning. Also, make sure you get proper glue coverage and bonding along the entire length of the tube and blank. Adhesion problems can occur if there are large areas lacking glue coverage between the tube & blank.

Great idea but the alumilite is too soft. It will not take a shine like other acrylics. I tried every trick I know to get a shine…no luck. I ended up trying CA glue to build a shine, but still not a great finish. I used mirka thru 600 then to micro mesh but it would not shine at all
